Images shot with a Camera Obscura often don’t show moving objects or people due to long exposure times.
The well-known fashion model and actress Angela Lindvall was introduced to me in 2008. Upon seeing some of my work she had proposed a collaboration. It took another two years though until we finally met on her land near Los Angeles. The following series of nude images were shot with a large custom-made tent camera and six big wardrobe boxes. The tent served for extra large formats, where the boxes gave the possibility to capture the same scene simultaneously from different angles. Generally I try to abolish a sense of direction in my imagery – the overall composition rules over the question which side is up or down – shifting between reality towards abstraction. For continuing this notion, we tried to envision the body as part of the landscape, instead as an object in nature. Obviously this requires skills of the model to “freeze” that were absolutely mastered here by Angela Lindvall.
Furthermore we played with the appearance by painting her skin in a dark tone to show the body positive in a negative environment. Opposed to the imagery in my VirginForest series were the colors sit mostly on black, I tried here to have them sit on white – like a Camera Obscura negative Chiaroscuro.
